Meet the team

Trustees

We have a small team of trustees who combine to create a wealth of experience in ambulance services and Christian leadership.

Steven Herron

Co-Chair
&
Chaplaincy Lead

Steven Herron

Steven has been in NHS Ambulance Services for almost 18 years starting initially with NWAS in Cumbria and Lancashire Emergency Operations Centre before transferring through to Cheshire and Merseyside where Steven worked as a Technician then Paramedic in Liverpool before transferring to the Isle of Man Ambulance Service in 2016 where Steven now works as a part-time Paramedic, Clinical Educator and End of Life Care Lead, as well as supporting the island’s Air Ambulance Service, transferring patients to tertiary centres in the North West of England.

Aside from his clinical duties, Steven enjoys educating people of all ages, leading his own community interest company with the sole purpose of spreading knowledge in pre-hospital care.

Steven’s also a St John Ambulance volunteer in the North west, being one of the clinical officers for Merseyside and supporting them with their event clinical management and CPD events.

Outside of ambulance world, Steven’s part-time vicar of St Ninian’s Parish Church in Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man. Steven was ordained deacon in 2020 and priest in 2021 and took up his vicar post in July 2025 and shares his half-time role with an ordained Pioneer Minister. Being a paramedic/priest on a small island provides as many challenges as it does blessings! One becomes fairly when known and if people recognise Steven in either role, they often think the worst! (“No, I’m not here for Last Rights, don’t worry!”).

Steven’s involved in a number of charities and enjoys socialising with the many volunteers he meets. Steven also loves most genres of music (acid house, hardcore dance and jazz, oddly, just don’t do it for him!). Steven plays tuba with a local brass band, as well as loving the outdoors, which the island offers in abundance! Steven feels closest to God when he’s out on the fells and loves being amidst his wonderful creation.

Ambulance work is trying; it’s often tedious and difficult. Outside of the stressors of shifts, family sacrifice, missing out on the special occasions (Christmas and Easter being, simply, working days), it’s not normal to see some of the stuff they see and deal with. Steven recognises this and firmly believes that God has called each of them to this vocation above any other in order to support their fellow human being; the very selfless ministry Jesus himself offered. It is this message that Steven thinks many of them need to hear – Jesus is amongst them and he understands completely the sacrifices involved in supporting one another in their best, and worst times.

Steven’s incredibly proud to be a trustee of CAA and looks forward to meeting and working with them should they ever wish to reach out.
